Where To Drink Craft Beer In Virginia | Alexandria, Richmond, Virginia Beach & Norfolk

Virginia. The closest body of warm water to Canada, the state is known for being the home of some of the US’s most important federal departments, and more recently for its incredible craft beer scene. VA had been at the top of our bucket list for a long time, and over Summer19 we finally got out there in partnership with Visit Virginia. We spent 6 full days in the state for lovers, spending time wandering the streets of Old Town Alexandria, kicking it in Scott’s Addition in Richmond, and getting some quality ocean time in via Hampton, Norfolk and Virginia Beach. We shot three vlogs focused on Where To Drink Craft Beer in each beautiful city. Let’s go.

ALEXANDRIA

We began our journey in the gorgeous city of Alexandria, VA, right across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C. We visited restaurants, award winning breweries, saw some cool art installations, stayed in a stunning boutique hotel, explored the waterfront and Old Town on the trolley, and mostly just wish we could've stayed longer. We slept at the incredible The Alexandrian Autograph Collection hotel, we ate and drank at Virtue Feed & Grain, interviewed Crooked Run for the podcast, attended the launch party at the brand new Alexandria taproom for Aslin, brunched at Jackson 20, and wrapped it up at the highly awarded Port City.

Virginia is a state that had been at the top of our bucket list for a long time, and this summer, we finally got out there in partnership with Virginia is for Lovers. The first in a three part series of Where To Drink Craft Beer, we begin our journey in the gorgeous city of Alexandria, VA, right across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C.
Virginia is a region we've been wanting to visit for some time, so we were stoked to partner with Virginia is for Lovers and Visit Loudoun to get us down to the state for lovers to hit as many breweries as humanly possible.

RICHMOND

The second stop was Richmond, affectionately known as RVA, a city that is well known for its incredible craft beer scene. We were lucky to hit multiple bucket list breweries, as well as discover some fantastic spots that were new to us, primarily exploring downtown and the funky neighbourhood of Scott's Addition. We also visited the beer bar rated #1 many years in a row. We hung out with Scott at Triple Crossing, ate with Bri of Visit Virginia at the Southern Railway Taphouse, kicked it with the fam Eric Jackson of Uncap Everything + Capsoul at The Veil and Väsen, brunched at Perly's Restaurant & Delicatessen, and crushed a crawl at Strangeways, Ardent Craft Ales, The Answer and Mekong Restaurant + Beer Bar.

The second instalment in our Virginia is for Lovers vlog series sees us hit the capital, Richmond, a city that is well known for its incredible craft beer scene. We were lucky to hit multiple bucket list breweries, as well as discover some fantastic spots that were new to us, primarily exploring downtown and the funky neighbourhood of Scott's Addition.

VIRGINIA BEACH + NORFOLK

For our final days in VA, we hung out in Virginia Beach and Norfolk to discover their craft beer delights. We recorded the second podcast of the trip, visited a handful of breweries, saw Poseidon, hung out at the actual beach and went for a swim - all on Tiffany's birthday. Huge thanks once again to Visit Virginia for hosting us for the week and helping us explore all the amazing cities in their wonderful state. We can't wait to get back! We podcasted with Kevin at O'Connor Brewing, dined at the gorgeous Becca Restaurant & Garden inside The Historic Cavalier Hotel & Beach Club, and knocked out a final crawl at New Realm Brewing, Commonwealth Brewing and Benchtop Brewing.

For our second Virginia podcast in partnership with Visit Virginia, we headed down south to Norfolk to hang with one of the OGs of the region, Kevin O'Connor from O'Connor Brewing Co.. As the second largest brewery in the state, O'Connor have set the tone for Virginia's beer scene over the last decade, and Kevin is one of the most respected brewers around.
